Another year gone and it feels like it was just yesterday that I was writing my goals for 2019. For some reason, this upcoming year feels even greater and maybe it is because we are entering a new decade. 2020 feels so weird to say out loud, but I think this presents a fresh start for all of us. Here is another decade where we can continue to grow, and bring value to our lives as we continue living out our chapters. This decade I will turn 30, which will start a new decade in my life as well. This decade, I hope to grow into the best version of myself and to continue to live and build a fulfilling life. So here’s to looking back on what I accomplished last year and setting new goals for the first year in this new decade:
Looking Back: 2019 Goals
More IG Stories – I have definitely been a lot better with IG stories. I can’t say that I post every day but I do make an effort to be engaging at least a few times a week.
Revamp my website – I made more effort to work on my blog this fall. I have updated the look of it and added more content. This will be a big priority of mine in the upcoming year for sure.
Explore more of Chicago – I absolutely love living in Chicago, especially the area of Lincoln Park that I am in. I have ventured out more for sure but the city is so big, there is an endless amount to see and do. I am definitely going to continue getting to know my city.
One out of country trip – I went on two out of country trips this year which were both amazing! I went to Mexico in February and Dominican Republic in May.
One in country trip – made it to California and Arizona. Definitely going to plan some more next year.
One solo trip – unfortunately, I have not gotten to this. It is a goal of mine to do this some time but this year was just too much to add this on.
Exercise more and eat healthier – I have lost weight and feel so much better overall. This will continue to be my goal and I hope to just have this become more of a lifestyle and not a goal I want to accomplish each year.
Take better care of my skin – This is a continuous process but I have been a lot more mindful of always trying to take my makeup off and take better care in general.
Make more time for myself – ahh this is one of my biggest struggles but I am working on it. I am trying to live more in the moment and be present. I am focusing more on myself and will continue on working on this throughout the years. I am hoping to find a healthy balance.
Finish a series of a show – I honestly have become less and less interested with TV. I would rather spend my time in more valuable ways and therefore have neglected following TV series as much as I used to. Do not get me wrong; I love to sit my butt on the couch and get lost in a good show, but I just don’t have the time to binge watch TV anymore. I did finish Friends from start to finish but who can say no to that show.
Read at least 3 books this year – I have been more and more into books, which could also be why I have been less focused on TV. I have read four books this year and have over 20 more sitting on my bookshelf, so I think I will have to step up my game next year.
Overall, I think I made progress on the things I wanted to accomplish. I found that writing them down and following up really made me feel more inclined to actually work on them, so moving forward I will definitely continue to do this.
I decided that this upcoming year, I am going to work on myself as a whole. I want to have a more positive outlook on life and be more present in the moment. I find that I am usually either looking at what happened in the past or fantasizing and analyzing the future; neither of those things help me be in the moment.

This quote has really resonated with me lately. I am not saying making plans is not important but people get so wrapped up in them. Life just passes by and the little moments are gone forever. I gotta learn to stop and smell the roses sometimes 🙂
My overall aspiration is to become a more mindful person but I am not going to count this as a goal. I want this to be a lifestyle change for me that I continue to follow and build on. But below are some things that are tangible that I hope to achieve in the upcoming year and I hope it inspires you to create some of your own:
Read More – I have gotten way better at this and I have read four books this year, so I am hoping to read at least five more books in the upcoming year.
Blog More – I want to continue to enhance my blog and bring more traffic to it. My goal is to be more active and work toward more content. I am hoping to come out with at least one blog post a month.
Healthy Eating/Cooking – I have gotten so much better at this than I used to be. But, I think my goal for this year is to cut out processed food and try to cook from scratch as much as I can. My dad used to be a chef and my mom is amazing in the kitchen as well, so I want to learn how to make more meals. Now, this does not mean I am giving up pizza and croissants and all the things I love. It just means instead of having it a few times a week; it will be more like a few times a month.
Meditation – I wish I could sit still and live more in the present moment, so I am going to try adapting meditation into my life. I have read that even meditating for a few minutes every day helps tremendously, so it is one of those healthy habits I am going to add.
Not check my phone in the morning – I recently read an article that talked about filling your brain with crap or clean water and it really made me reevaluate what I consume everyday. Basically, the crap or dirty water is the bad news that you are consuming; the reality TV, the constant social media scrolling and etc.. Instead, you should be filling your brain with more inspiring stories and happier topics. I am going to strive to not check my phone first thing in the morning, so I can have a clear start to the day and not get consumed with the dirty water. Now, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t watch The Bachelor (guilty pleasure over here), or ever listen to the news, and like peoples pictures on Instagram; but instead be mindful of all the things you consume and make room for some fulfilling things as well.
Try a workout class – I want to venture outside the gym and try some classes. I am one of those people that actually doesn’t mind going to the gym but there are some days that get repetitive so I think trying something new would be a fun way to break the cycle.
Travel to three new place – I already have plans to go to some places next year so I know this will be manageable.
There you have it…I am sure I will continue to make more goals along the way as I always do but I feel like these are the things that are important to me now as I am writing this post.
