Las Vegas…it is either your worst nightmare or you absolutely love it. I feel like there is not too much of an in between when it comes to this one. Personally, I think Vegas is great. There is so much to do, it is full of life, and you can never be bored but you can go home broke, so be careful haha 😉
I have visited Vegas a few times and have compiled a few of my favorite places and suggestions for first timers embarking on the craziness that is Sin City and for those that just keep on coming back and want to explore more.
Where to stay:
I have stayed at a few of the resorts and below is a snap shot of the ones I liked and their vibes:
The Mirage – I went here once with my parents and the hotel is stunning. It has a few shops, but it is not one of those with a ton to see and do inside of it. My favorite part of the hotel is the pool. It is gorgeous and there were a few of them you could utilize and even an adult only pool which is nice for those that want to get away from the kiddos. It is also towards the end of the strip, but it was surrounded by the best hotels to see anyways (in my opinion).
The Cosmopolitan – this resort is very upscale and chic. It has one of the best casinos in Vegas and has a very modern/artsy feel to it. What I really enjoyed about this hotel is the rooms. Originally this was meant to be an apartment complex, so all the rooms have balconies and a small kitchen, so it provides you with a really homey feel. Another great perk of the hotel, which you usually do not find in Vegas is that they have an ice skating rink during the winter months, so it provides a nice change from the typical Vegas activities.
Marriott JW – this resort is offsite but has a beautiful property. It is perfect for those that want to relax and be away from the madness, but still close enough that they can go and enjoy it as well. The property also has a casino, a buffet and a few restaurants; as well as this gorgeous pool. It is about a 15-20 minute drive from the strip, so you still have the opportunity to make your way over there at your leisure.
Planet Hollywood – this is a really fun resort and filled with so much to see and do. It is perfect for a girls trip or a weekend with a group of friends. The pool provides a fun atmosphere and it is in the perfect location on the strip, so you are close to everything. The hotel is filled with tons of shops and restaurants giving you plenty to choose from, so you definitely will not be bored at this property.
Where to eat:
This is a tough one because there are just so many options and all the hotels have these amazing restaurants you can go to. Pretty hard to narrow them down, but below are a few suggestions of places I have been.
PBR Rock Bar & Grill (Planet Hollywood) – the perfect place to get some all around American comfort food. You can enjoy yourself out on their patio or hang inside and even ride the mechanical bull.
Jaleo (Cosmopolitan) – very modern tapas restaurant. Has a lot of variety of food to try out and it is served very creatively. A bit pricey for the amount of food you get, but it is perfect for sharing a bunch of plates with your friends. Try the paella, it is made fresh and you only get which ever they have made and ready that day.
Secret Pizza (Cosmopolitan) – this place does not have an official sign or anything, so it can be a bit hard to find at first, but it is so worth it. It is perfect for grabbing a slice of pizza and a beer and it closes really late (around 4-5 AM depending on the night), so you can get your late night fix here. It is next to the revolving doors right by Jaleo and it is totally worth the wait, but I am also very biased because I am obsessed with pizza.
Honey Salt (off the strip; near JW Marriott) – a cute little spot that has the best atmosphere. The decorations make dining there super comfortable and the food is incredible. Great spot if you are off the strip and want to try something different.
Trevi Italian (Caesar Palace) – if you are looking for an amazing dining experience than this will fulfill your needs. You get to literally eat as if you were in Rome next to the Trevi Fountain (which is also a great experience btw ;)). You get the best atmosphere sitting on the patio in the middle of the hotel and getting to indulge in delicious Italian food.
Also highly recommended – go get yourself a crepe at the Paris Hotel. So delicious 🙂
What to see and do:
First off, I can go on and on about what to do and see here just because there is so much. I still find myself exploring new things every time I come back to Las Vegas since there is always something new that pops up. Make sure to check out some of the below:
Visit the hotels – I know this seems like an obvious answer, but I know so many people who haven’t seen them all. They have so much to offer and you can spend hours exploring all the different “cities”. Now I know they do not compare to the real thing, but it does give you a good glimpse of how the city is and gives you even more of a reason to visit the real place.
Catch a show – One of the best shows I have seen in a while was the Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil. The music, the dancing and the incredible circus performances made the show so fun and I highly recommend seeing this one. Not all shows are going to involve you spending money. Plenty of the hotels offer indoor and outdoor presentations. One of my favorites is the Bellagio Water Show. It is absolutely stunning and I always go watch at least one show every time I go to Vegas.
Zip Line through Old Town – Hit up Fremont Street and relive the good ol’ Vegas days. This area is so flashy and really takes you back in time to what Vegas used to be like. They do have zip lining and you can zip line through the whole street. It was a really fun experience to see the other side of Vegas.
Where to Party:
Sin City is the perfect place to go out and have the time of your life. The nightlife is insane and goes until the early morning. Below are just a few suggestions of different atmospheres:
Surrender Night Club (Encore) – indoor and outdoor club with a pool. I have only come here during the night and absolutely loved the atmosphere of the place. The music was good and the pool was all lit up. Great for sipping some cocktails with your girlfriends and enjoying the view.
Hyde (Bellagio) – this was one of my favorites just due to the incredible views overlooking the Bellagio fountain water show. Also, it is very stylish and upscale so it makes you feel like a celebrity and who knows maybe you will even spot one.
Pool party (various) – the best part of Vegas is that you can drink when you want and almost wherever you want. If you are anything like me then you love to day drink and what better way than sipping a cold one at one of Vegas’s many pool parties.
What are you waiting for? Get booking…just don’t end up like the hangover 😉
