Roma

Rome is one of those cities that you cannot visit just once. I had really low expectations when it came to Rome because I was informed by a lot of people that visited, that it was nothing special and that it was dirty. This is far from the truth. The city is very vast and yes it might not be spotlessly clean but what do you expect from a city with so many people and tourists coming and going everyday. It is no different than being in a city like New York except filled with more history and incredible sights.

The best advice I can give to someone visiting Rome for the first time is to do all the touristy things. I know in my earlier posts, I have mentioned to venture out but the city is just filled with too much history and incredible touristy sights that you just must see. The reason I say to visit those areas is because if you’re like me, you will probably make your way back to the city to really get to know it more. Also, I was only there for a weekend, therefore, I didn’t have all the time in the world. But, if you are going for longer, then do the whole venturing out thing and be like Lizzie McGuire and meet yourself a hot Italian singer 😉

If you don’t get that opportunity, well then, you can say you visited some of the most famous, influential, and historic places in the world. It is a win-win situation either way.

Here are my top 5 musts when you visit:

1. Colosseum – DUH! I feel like this one is a given. I can’t explain the feeling, but there is something so eerie and magical about the place. Close your eyes for a minute and envision the history that went down here and trust me you will get chills.

2. Trevi Fountain – Make a wish to come back, so you can visit more places 🙂

3. The Vatican (although technically it is its own separate city) – go to St. Peter’s Basilica and climb the million steps it takes to get to the top of the dome because look at that view, it’s worth a million steps. Ok…it’s not a million but still a lot of stepping to do (551 to be exact).

4. Spanish Steps – grab a panini and some vine and enjoy the view. Great place to relax and people watch.

5. The Pantheon – used to be a Roman Temple where Caesar and his friends hung out. Just kidding, that’s false but it was a Roman Temple that is now a church. It is located in the Piazza della Rotonda which is another great place to sit down and just get some gelato and people watch.

There is soooo much more to Rome than these 5 spots. I just felt that these were some of the highlights of my weekend in Rome, so I thought I’d emphasize on them. Rome has so much more to offer, to see and do. Go out and explore and EAT because the food is just incredibly delicious.

Happy Travels – xoxo Dre ❤
